2. How does therapy work? What can I expect?

Upon scheduling your first appointment, you will be sent some forms to complete before your session. These forms will provide me with some information about you, and give you an idea of what it is like to work with me.

When you arrive we will:

·     Go over the forms you filled out

·     Talk about what brought you to counseling

·     Establish our goals for therapy

·     Discuss your history, as well as any contributing factors related to your therapy goals

·     If all goes well, we will then decide how often we will meet

For the following sessions your job would be to:

·     Bring the material you want to work on

·     Discuss anything that came up after the last time we met

·     Talk about current events happening in your life

·     Report progress

How can I help you?

·     By deepening your understanding of issues at hand

·     Coming up with clear strategies of how to deal with challenges you are facing

·     Identifying some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process

Keep in mind that therapy is rarely a quick fix, but rather a rich process that requires time and patience.

The more actively you participate in this process, the greater the results.

3. What do you charge for therapy?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and cost $150 per session.

Acceptable forms of payment include check, cash and all major credit and debit cards.

Reduced fee services are available on a limited basis. Please inquire.

4. What about insurance?

I would be happy to provide you with a billing statement for insurance reimbursement for out-of-network counseling.

Please keep the following in mind that:

·     In order to use your medical insurance for reimbursement, you must be given a mental health diagnosis and that                   diagnosis will become a part of your medical record.

·     When you submit a claim our meetings will no longer be completely confidential. Your insurance company will know of           your name, diagnosis, and dates of service.

·     Not all diagnoses are reimbursed by your insurance.

To determine if you have coverage through your health insurance, you should contact your insurance provider directly.  You might want to ask them the following 3 questions:

1.     What are the mental health benefits included in my plan?

2.     How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?

3.     How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?

5. What if something came up and I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session time. You will be responsible for the full fee and charged for the time reserved when cancellations are received less than 48 hours in advance.

In case you have to cancel your appointment in less than 48 hours, we can try and reschedule your appointment within the same week. That way you will only be required to pay for 1 session. I will do everything in my power to reschedule the session, however, I cannot guarantee that time slots accommodating both of our schedules will be available. In the event that we are unable to find a different time slot in the same week, you will be financially responsible for the appointment you are missing.

6. Therapy is expensive. Shouldn't I be able to deal with my issues on my own?

When you seek therapy you make a commitment to heal from your past, face a challenging situation and grow into a person you aspire to be. It takes self-awareness and strength to know when you need extra support and ask for a helping hand. A trained professional can help illuminate the blind spots we all inevitably have and offer a different prospective on the situation you have not considered before.

Therapy offers long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to face challenging situations, break detrimental patterns, and better your relationships. Most of us think that having a 401 (k) plan is a smart idea.  It sets us up for a better, more secure future. Well, therapy is a similar investment in your emotional and relational health. In fact, it is one of the most important investments you will ever make.
